String Gone Deaf is the collaborative effort of Jenna Barvitski (violin) and Kyle Farrell (vibraphone). Together they work to merge improvisation and composition to create a new musical dialogue as a response to things in nature that are blue, such as the sky, certain types of algae and water.

String Gone Deaf is a direct outgrowth of The Giants of Gender (Edgetone Records, San Francisco), an improvisational trio the two founded with reedist Andy Meyer in 2006 as a springboard for their experimental conquests. When the two moved to New York City in 2008, they played together in various capacities, culminating in the progressive-noise project Rickety Wrists with guitarist Daniel Weiss. Both have been variously involved in more digestible song-based projects, including Point Reyes and After Owl, which will both be releasing albums early in the coming new year, as well as Weiss’s songwriting endeavors.
